Kerala man arrested for beating 2-year-old daughter

Police say it is unclear exactly why the child was brutally attacked (File)

Malappuram:

The father of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was arrested by police on Tuesday for allegedly beating his daughter to death in the northern district of Kerala two days ago.

A police officer from Kalikavu police station said a case has been registered against the man under Section 302 (murder) of the ICC and Section 75 (cruelty of children) of the Juvenile Justice Act.

“He will appear in court during the day and we will seek his custody,” the official said.

The official also said the child died from internal injuries caused by the father’s alleged assault, including seven broken ribs and bleeding on the brain.

In addition, the child had multiple old and new injuries, police said.

The officer said it was not clear exactly why the child was brutally attacked, adding that the circumstances would be revealed as the investigation progressed.

The man was detained on Monday after family members raised suspicion over the child’s death.

The child’s father rushed the child to a hospital in Vendol on Sunday, claiming she had choked on food. However, she could not be saved.

Later, her relatives claimed that he beat the child.

Relatives told the media that there were some problems in the marriage and the mother of the child also complained to him.
