The Queen said the Princess of Wales “will be very emotional” after receiving posters of well-wishers during a walk in Shrewsbury.
The royal made the comments during a visit to a farmers’ market when he met two young girls who made gestures for Kate after she announced she had cancer.
The Princess of Wales revealed in a video statement on Friday that she is undergoing preventive chemotherapy.
She said she and Prince William have been doing everything they can to “deal with and manage this matter privately for the sake of our young family.”
