Lok Sabha polls: High-stakes Lok Sabha elections 2024 to be held in seven phases

Congress MP Nakul Nath, son of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath, is the richest in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, according to analysis by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) candidate with assets of Rs 7.17 billion.

Last month, Nate Sr. and Nate Jr. had the Congress leadership on tenterhooks amid speculation that both might join the BJP. Sources told NDTV Kamal Nath that the party is “not happy” with its poor performance in the 2023 assembly elections. Sources said Kamal Nath felt that the Congress party had changed since he joined the Congress over 50 years ago and conveyed this to the party.

The Congress party later denied reports that Kamal Nath would leave, stressing that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had called him her “third son” when she campaigned for him in 1979.

Nakul Nath has been nominated to defend the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat, followed by AIADMK’s Ashok Kumar, who is vying with Tamil Nadu’s Erode ) competition, Erode claimed assets worth Rs 662 crore. Sivaganga BJP candidate Dhevanathan Yadav T has assets of Rs 304 crore.

The high-stakes Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases, with the first phase starting on April 19. Counting will take place on June 4.

With less than two weeks left before the election, candidates from various political parties submitting nominations have disclosed personal details, including assets, criminal backgrounds or cases, financial status and other information.
