Former England rugby international joe marler has revealed that he was very keen to join celebrity traitor That he had initially offered to pay for the privilege.
The 35-year-old reached the final of the BBC reality game show earlier this year, where he was ultimately eliminated by comedian Nick Mohammed, 45.
Mohammed wrongly suspected Marler of being a traitor.Despite an initial friendship and agreement with a former Harlequins player to defeat the show’s saboteurs.
Speaking at Waitrose Cooking podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, Marler opened up about his surprising approach to joining the star-studded cast.
He explained: “It was very strange. I was already a big fan of his and then I went for… the booking meeting, or coffee, whatever, and I asked, ‘How much will it cost me then?’, and he said, ‘What do you mean?'”
“I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll obviously pay to be on the show’, that’s how desperate I am, and they were like, ‘No, no, it’s not a lot of money’, and ‘As long as you don’t mind’, I said, it’s too late, I’ve already said I’ll do it for free,” Marler said.

“I should have gone the opposite way, but it doesn’t work that way, it was wild, just the names in the cast… were fantastic. To be able to sit around the same table as Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross, Celia Imrie, and have the ability to like, tell them to shut up, or to grow up, or just outwit them.”
Despite playing as a loyalist during his time on the show, the star said he would not want to return to the game as a traitor if given the chance. Marler said: “I think a traitor has more control, they (know) what they’re doing, but if I had my time again, I wouldn’t be a traitor.”
The series ultimately ended with the comedian alan carr Taking home the entire £87,500 prize fund. After Faithful defeats the TV Historian with David Oluso And Mohammed, Carr generously donated the amount in the final Neuroblastoma UKChildren’s cancer charity.
