No respite from poisonous air in Delhi, AQI still 'very bad'

The air quality in the national capital remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Saturday (December 6) morning as the air quality index (AQI) touched 335 at 9 am.

According to Central Pollution Control Board Sameer App, 36 monitoring stations across the capital also reported “very poor” air, with Mundka recording the worst level of 387.

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is categorized as ‘good’, between 51 and 100 as ‘satisfactory’, between 101 and 200 as ‘moderate’, between 201 and 300 as ‘poor’, between 301 and 400 as ‘very poor’ and between 401 and 500 as ‘severe’.

Delhi’s air quality has declined rapidly during this week. The AQI in the city was recorded at 279 on Sunday, 304 on Monday, which rose sharply to 372 on Tuesday and 342 on Wednesday. The city’s AQI remained in the “very poor” category with a reading of 304 on Thursday and 327 on Friday.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 6.8 degrees Celsius, 2.7 degrees Celsius below normal, while the morning humidity stood at 95%. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature may reach 24 degrees Celsius in partly cloudy sky.
