J&K: Dedicated train services on Baramulla-Banihal route despite heavy snowfall

The Basantgarh valley of Udhampur, Mahol and Gulmarg in Raishi district were transformed into stunning snowscapes as the first snowfall of the season painted them white.

Srinagar, the center of Jammu and Kashmir, also received snow, presenting a picturesque scene.

Despite heavy snowfall, Baramulla-Banihal train service Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnaw said the continued operations of Railways in Jammu and Kashmir reflects the dedication of the Ministry of Railways.

However, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is facing closure due to road damage caused by snowfall, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of State Highways reported.

The winter traffic disruption also extends to the Mughal Highway connecting Poonch and Rajouri districts with Srinagar, which had to be closed to vehicular traffic due to heavy snowfall. Even the Matavashno Devi temple in Katra was covered with a fresh layer of snow, enhancing the serenity of the holy site.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain and snowfall are expected in the mountainous areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand in the coming days due to western disturbance. This weather pattern is also likely to affect plain areas like Haryana, Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh.
