Jasprit Bumrah’s emergence in Indian cricket comes at a time when fast bowling is emerging as its forte. With a reliance on spin, then skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shatri wanted to build a fast bowling fleet that could shock the world. Jasprit Bumrah became the poster child for this revolution. Be it in Tests, T20s or ODIs, Bumrah’s unique moves are difficult for the opposition batsmen to understand.

As he continues to rise in the rankings, so too does the Indian cricket team’s ranking as a fast bowling team. Today, the Indian team is comfortably in the top three in terms of pace.

However, Jasprit Bumrah, who hails from Gujarat, at some point wanted to move to Canada for better opportunities. But then Mumbai Indians happened and the rest is history.

“Do you want to go to Canada and start a new life there?” Sanjana, the fast bowler’s wife, asked Bumrah.

“We have had this conversation before. Every boy wants to excel and play cricket. There are 25 players on every street who want to play for India. You have to have a back-up plan. Our relatives live there. I Think I’ll finish my career.” Education and…my uncle lives there. First we thought we would go as a family, then my mom didn’t want to go there because it was a different culture. I’m happy and lucky that things are going well, otherwise I wouldn’t have tried to play for Team Canada and do something there. I’m happy to have had success here. I’m playing for Team India and Mumbai Indians team,” Bumrah said on Jio Cinema.

Recently, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary said that he wants Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mayank Yadav to join the team for the T20 World Cup.

“If I were in Ajit Agarkar’s position, I would play him. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and then Maya Yadav (Mayan Yadav). Looking at Mayank’s form, movement and release, it looks like he’s in control and it feels like if you give him a bigger stage “he’ll deliver on his promises.” With the IPL coming up and a lot of overseas players coming in and out, your confidence will also grow,” Tiwary said in a discussion on Cricbuzz.
