Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K Kavitha was arrested in Tihar in a money laundering case related to Delhi’s excise policy, official sources said on Wednesday Spent the first night in jail and was given prison food.

According to sources in Tihar Jail, she spent her first night in a cell shared by two other female inmates in Jail No. 6, a specialized women’s prison.

“She had dal and rice, which were also served to other prisoners on Tuesday night, and tea and snacks on Wednesday morning,” a jail source said.

K Kavitha was brought to Delhi on Tuesday evening after a Delhi court sent him to judicial custody till April 9 after the education ministry argued that the “highly influential” arrestee could influence witnesses and tamper with evidence if released. Hal prison.

“After the medical examination, she was sent directly back to her cell. During the medical examination, her blood pressure was slightly low, but it later returned to normal,” the source said.

As per jail rules, K Kavitha was given a mattress, slippers, clothes, sheets and blankets, sources said, adding that she was also given medicines.

An official said she had not asked for anything “specific” and that things would be provided to her in accordance with court orders and prison rules.

Under the court order, she was given home-cooked food, mattresses, slippers, clothes, sheets, blankets, books, pens and paper, and medicines. BRS leaders may also wear jewellery. However, she was not wearing any jewelry when she arrived at the jail, the official said.

“She drinks tea, eats and watches TV just like other prisoners,” another officer said, adding that she could check out books in the Tihar jail library, which is open to all inmates.

The 46-year-old BRS leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15 in a money laundering case related to Delhi’s excise tax policy. She was detained by federal investigative agencies for 10 days.

Officials said around 500 women prisoners are housed in Tihar Jail No. 6.

K Kavitha was jailed after Aam Aadmi Party’s Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were arrested in the GST policy case The third political leader of Har Prison.

Sisodia is lodged in the first jail while Singh is lodged in the second jail.

Another AAP leader Satyendar Jain was arrested in another money laundering case and is currently lodged in Jail No. 7.
