New Delhi:

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday took exception to those around the world who are trying to lecture on India’s judicial machinery, after the United States and Germany commented on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate.

He did not mention cases related to the GST policy “scam” but said India had a robust judicial mechanism.

Addressing an event organized by the Bar Association, Dhankar claimed that the Indian judiciary is independent, fair and ready.

“There are people in the world who want to teach us a lesson about our judicial conduct,” he said.

He also said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act is being narrated.

Mr Danka said someone from a sovereign platform who has no clue about the reality of the situation is trying to teach us a lesson and let us know that it is discriminatory… Let us refute their ignorance.

He stressed that the purpose of the CAA was to provide reprieve to those persecuted on religious grounds in India’s periphery and stressed that no one was deprived of citizenship but the narrative was so different.

Some Western countries have questioned the recently announced law.

Mr Dankar urged people to remain committed to nationalism.

“We are not a nation that takes scripture from other people,” he asserted.

He asked the youth to take a stand against such acts on social media and other platforms. He called on young people to enlighten the nations who are trying to teach us lessons from their ignorance.

India summoned top US diplomats on Wednesday in a strong protest against Washington’s remarks about Kejriwal’s arrest.

A US State Department official reportedly said that Washington encourages fair, transparent and timely legal proceedings against Kejriwal.

On March 23, India summoned the deputy head of the German mission here to lodge a strong protest against the German Foreign Ministry’s remarks on the arrest of the Delhi Chief Minister.

A spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry took note of Kejriwal’s arrest.

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Kejriwal in a money laundering case related to the GST policy ‘scam’.

The case relates to alleged corruption and money laundering by the Delhi government in formulating and implementing the GST policy for 2021-22, which was later repealed.

Mr Danka also took issue with those spreading “pessimism in an age of hope and possibility”.
