Israel struck Iran with missiles on Friday, days after Tehran attacked the Jewish state, according to media reports, as concerns grew about a wider conflict in the Middle East. An Israeli missile hit a site in Iran, a U.S. official told ABC News. However, the official did not confirm whether the attacks also hit Iraq and Syria.

Explosions were also heard in several Iranian cities, including Isfahan and Tabrez. Videos on social media showed missiles lighting up the dawn sky.

The attack came just days after Iran launched its first-ever direct attack on Israel on April 13. Tehran has launched more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel. Iran’s attack was in response to Israel’s April 1 attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus.

This is a development story. It will be updated.
