Amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, the two sides are expected to resume ceasefire talks in Qatar on Sunday. On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said he approved military plans to attack Gaza’s southernmost town of Rafah, where some 1.4 million displaced Palestinians, more than half of the enclave’s population, have taken refuge.

On October 7, Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages, followed by Israel’s attack on Gaza, sending many people fleeing to Rafah. Gaza’s health ministry said at least 31,553 Palestinians have been killed in the war.
