Fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana, who is recovering from a hamstring problem, was on Thursday named in Sri Lanka’s squad for next month’s T20 World Cup, which will be led by Wanindu Hasaranga, who is also returning from injury. On May 5, Chennai Super Kings’ Pathirana was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League due to a hamstring injury and the fast bowler returned to Colombo for the rehabilitation process. Pathirana played just six matches for CSK in IPL 2024 and took 13 wickets at an economy rate of 7.68.
The 21-year-old first suffered the injury during Sri Lanka’s T20 series against Bangladesh in March.
Left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka has also been included in the squad after recovering from the hamstring injury that forced him out of this IPL.
Madhushanka was signed by Mumbai Indians but he was replaced by South African fast bowler Kwena Mafaka.
Similarly, captain Hasaranga is also suffering from chronic pain in the heel of his left foot, due to which he has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL.
The leg spinner was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 1.5 crore after being released by Royal Challengers Bangalore after IPL 2023.
