iPad models said to be affected by production delays ahead of expected May launch

Apple is rumored to be launching new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in the coming weeks, but a new report suggests the tech giant’s supply chain has been hit by repeated delays that could impact the launch of the upcoming devices schedule. Previous reports claimed that the new iPad Pro may be equipped with an M3 chipset and have thinner bezels. Apple is also expected to launch a new iPad Air with a 12.9-inch display and M2 chipset.

according to a Report Author: DigiTimes Asia (pass MacRumors says mass production of camera lenses for upcoming iPad models has been “repeatedly delayed.” The report cited Taiwanese suppliers as sources, stressing that this would likely result in minimal delays. However, it is said that the “production start” may take place in May. It’s unclear what a mass production release means, but separate reports suggest Apple’s iPad range could launch in early May.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently said that the next generation of iPad Pro and iPad Air models may be available in early May, correcting his previous speculation that these products may launch in March or early April. Gurman cited people familiar with the matter as saying the delay was due to the device software not being completed yet. Additionally, the “complex manufacturing technology” of the device’s new display was also cited as a reason for the delay.

Bloomberg Report It was also mentioned that four new iPad Pro variants may be launched this year. All models codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721 are rumored to feature new OLED displays, M3 chipsets, improved rear camera modules, horizontal front-facing cameras, and support for MagSafe wireless charging.

Additionally, the Pro model could feature thinner bezels, a slimmer body, and will be available in “glossy and matte screen versions.” The bezel thickness of the 11-inch model is expected to be 7.12 mm, while the 12.9-inch model may have bezel thickness of 7.08 mm.

The iPad Air model, on the other hand, is said to be powered by the M2 chipset and feature a horizontal front-facing camera. However, the biggest upgrade is said to be the first 12.9-inch model of the iPad Air series.
