Intel accelerates ‘Make in India’ plan: Company showcases local laptops and IT products in Delhi

Intel India on Thursday showcased a variety of locally made laptops and IT products at the India Tech Ecosystem Summit in New Delhi, reinforcing its commitment to the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The event brings together a host of local manufacturers to highlight a portfolio of India-designed and manufactured equipment, emphasizing technology-led growth.

The main highlights were the launch of locally manufactured servers powered by 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and C-DAC’s high-performance computing server Rudra, powered by Mega Networks.

The event showcased over 25 innovative products including wheeled banks, thin clients, all-in-one clients and multifunctional kiosks, showcasing a wide range of India-based original equipment from more than 10 Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) Manufacturing solution manufacturers (OEMs) and ecosystem players.

In addition, the event also provides a platform for docking between government entities, enterprises, OEMs, local ecosystems, and Taiwanese ODMs, promoting domestic and foreign cooperation. Prominent speakers from the government and leading ecosystem players such as Microsoft and Google delivered keynote addresses and shared insights on the future of technology in India.

Santhosh Viswanathan, vice president and managing director, Intel India, said: “This comprehensive showcase showcases a wide range of locally designed and manufactured electronics and IT products, marking a move from mere assembly to innovation. and the shift to self-reliance, which is also a testament to Intel. Going forward, India will play an important role in shaping cutting-edge technology on the global stage.”

In November last year, News18 reported that the tech giant was working with eight companies in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Haryana to accelerate the Manufacturing of notebook computers in China. Companies participating in the collaboration include Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd.

Speaking at the event, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S Krishnan said that India must take its rightful place in electronics manufacturing. “Of the eight manufacturers Intel has identified in the country, you may see many making laptops and even Chromebooks that are cost-effective and relatively cheap,” he said.

He also appreciated Intel’s efforts in India. “By establishing these collaborations and bringing in a range of manufacturers that can work with you, learn from you and grow with you, you are charting the way forward for many of your peers in the field,” Krishnan said.
