INS Visakhapatnam responds to distress call from missile-hit merchant ship; 22 Indians on board

The Indian Navy on Saturday announced that INS Visakhapatnam, a guided missile destroyer, responded to a distress call from MV Marlin Luanda on Republic Day night.

Missile destroyers have been deployed to the Gulf of Aden and are assisting in efforts to extinguish the fire on the ship. The Indian Navy said the MV had 22 Indian and 01 Bangladeshi crew on board.

Based on the request from MV Merlin Luanda, INS Visakhapatnam has deployed the ship’s NBCD team with fire fighting equipment to assist the crew towards enhancing fire fighting efforts on the distressed MV.
