This week, the Indian government issued a warning to Apple users about a new security issue. The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) called the latest warning high risk in a January 31 advisory. The security agency said Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, iPhone and iPad users were affected. This risk allows attackers to remotely access your device to collect confidential data and steal information for ransom.

Apple security issues affect these devices

According to the latest CERT-In advisory, users using the following software versions are affected:

– Apple macOS Monterey versions prior to 12.7.3

– Apple macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.6.4

– Apple watchOS versions prior to 10.3

– Apple iOS versions prior to 16.7 and iPadOS versions prior to 15.8.1

– Apple iOS versions prior to 17.0.1 and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7.5

– Apple Safari versions prior to 17.3

– Apple tvOS versions prior to 17.3

Apple Security Risks: How Are You Affected?

As noted by CERT-In, these security vulnerabilities exist in Apple products and could allow an attacker to access sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, and gain elevated privileges on the target system.

Judging from the details highlighted by the security agency, the latest Apple security risk affects a wide range of devices, dating back to the iPhone 6 series, iPad Air 2 and even iPod Touch 7th generation models. So, what advice does CERT-In have for these affected users to protect their data and other personal content from attackers?

You should update your Apple devices to the latest available updates as soon as possible. If your device is limited to the software versions listed here, you may want to consider switching to a newer device for security reasons.
