The drama unfolded after Andhra’s campaign in the Ranji Trophy ended with defeat on Monday, when senior batsman Hanuma Vihari said he would never play for the team again due to “mistreatment” by the state association, and asked him to instead step down. Was asked to resign. Captain after the first game of the season. Vihari also took aim at a team-mate (son of a politician) who he alleged had asked his father to take action against him after the veteran player shouted at him during a match. Vihari also shared a copy of his statement signed by other players of the Andhra team on his X account with a one-line comment – “The entire team knows (what happened that day).”

Andhra’s campaign in the current Ranji season ended when they lost to Madhya Pradesh by four runs in the quarter-finals in Indore. “The sad thing is that the association believes that the players have to listen to whatever they say and the players are there because of them (the association). I have decided that I will never play for Andhra where I lost my self-respect. Have given.”

“I love the team. I like the way we are progressing every season but the association doesn’t want us to progress,” Vihari wrote on Instagram.

The middle-order batsman, who has played 16 Tests for India, started the season as Andhra captain but stepped down after the first match against last year’s runners-up Bengal.

Ricky Bhui led the team for the remainder of the season, and now leads the season’s run charts with 902 runs.

At the time, Vihari had attributed his decision to step down from the leadership role to “personal reasons”, but now the right-handed batsman said the association had asked him to resign.

“In the first game against Bengal I was the captain, during that game I shouted at the 17th player and he complained to his father (who is a politician), in turn his father asked the association to take action against me. However We chased after scoring 410 runs against last year’s finalists Bengal, I was asked to resign from the captaincy without any mistake. “I never said anything personally to the players,” Vihari said.

However, concerned player KN Prithvi Raj took to Instagram to accuse Vihari of making false claims.

“Hello everyone! I am the same guy you guys are searching in the comment box, whatever you guys heard is absolutely false, nothing is better than sports and my self respect is much bigger than anything.”

“Personal attacks and foul language are unacceptable on any kind of humanitarian platform. Everyone in the team knows what happened that day. Nuvu inthaku minchi emmi pikkulevu (You can’t get anything better than this) Mr. So-called Champion. This sympathy Play the game however you want,” wrote Prithvi Raj.

However, Vihari later shared the copy of his statement on his X account, which was signed by other players of the Andhra team with a one-line comment – “The whole team knows.” However, recalling last year’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Madhya Pradesh, the 30-year-old complained that the association did not value his sacrifice for the team over the years.

An injury to his right forearm forced him to bat left-handed in that game, but he could not prevent Andhra’s elimination.

“The association thought the player was more important than the player who put his body on the line last year and batted left-handed, knocked out Andhra 5 times in the last 7 years and played for India in 16 Tests.

“I felt embarrassed but the only reason I continued playing this season was because I respect the game and my team,” he said.

Ahead of the 2023-2024 domestic season, Vihari was also linked with Madhya Pradesh but decided to stay with Andhra after failing to finalize the deal.

Vihari started his career with Hyderabad and then moved to Andhra during the 2015–16 season. He returned to Hyderabad for the 2021–2022 season before rejoining Andhra in the 2022–23 season.
