Outgoing Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu has said that India-US relations are going through revolutionary changes, stressing that bilateral relations have only covered the tip of the iceberg and are about to go further.

In an address at the Republic Day celebrations, Sandhu said it was important that his second generation remained connected to India. He said, “I just wanted to tell you that today revolutionary changes are taking place in India, in US-India relations also.” PTI, “So, it is important that your children and your families are aware of India, stay connected to India,” said Sandhu, who is retiring from the Foreign Service later this month after more than 35 years.

“As international capital and multinational companies come to India, all young Indian Americans will be uniquely positioned to capture the majority of job opportunities,” Sandhu said. “Therefore, stay connected to India, not only for emotional, cultural and many other reasons but also for economic and business reasons,” Sandhu said. The event in McLean, Virginia was organized by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations.

The outgoing ambassador was also honored by community leaders for his role in strengthening India-US relations. Speaking at another farewell event organized by the Indian American Business Impact Group, Sandhu said India-US relations have so far only touched the tip of the iceberg. “The truth is, we have only covered the tip of the iceberg. In all these areas, this relationship is going to go far,” he said.

“We are already hearing about different dimensions of AI, AI (artificial intelligence). India is going to play a very, very important and significant role. Look at any of the projections of the International Monetary Fund or the World Bank, India will play a very important role in the recovery of the world economy,” he said. Sandhu reiterated that Indian Americans should remain connected to India for career prospects, jobs and development of their children.
