Maharashtra: Laborer dies after being crushed by crane in Navi Mumbai

A 20-year-old laborer was crushed to death by a crane at a cable laying site in Navi Mumbai city of Maharashtra, police said on Sunday.

He said that the incident took place in Kharghar area around 11.30 am on Saturday.

The worker was pushing a cable drum at the site where excavation was going on, when he accidentally slipped and fell on the road near the crane.

At that time, a crane operator pushed the machine forward, crushing the worker to death, an official from the Kharghar police station said.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Narasima Tangri, a resident of Belapur area of ​​Navi Mumbai.

Based on his brother’s complaint, sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt likely to endanger life) of the Indian Penal Code, 338 (causing grievous hurt) were registered against the crane operator. A case has been registered under IPC. Grievous by an act endangering life) and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, the officer said.

Police said the body has been sent to the government hospital for post-mortem and the incident is being investigated.
