IIndia’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies is likely to be finalized in the last week of April as the ICC deadline for submitting teams is May 1, BCCI sources said on Saturday. However, before May 25, each participating team will have the opportunity to replace the players in the initial lineup. The selection committee will be able to assess the performance and fitness of the contenders,” the senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

“The first batch of cricketers will leave for New York immediately after the IPL league stage ends on May 19. Those players from teams that did not make it to the top four will leave early, as happened during the WTC finals last year,” the source added.

With the games being played in the United States and West Indies, it is expected that some substitutes will also travel with the team so that there will be no logistical nightmare in case any player in the main line-up gets injured or has to withdraw from the match. Withdrawal due to unforeseen circumstances.

The four national selectors will travel to watch most of the matches as this is a World Cup and unlike other tournaments they will only travel to watch a few games but will watch them on TV.

It is understood that no instructions on workload management have been given to any of the cup hopefuls as they have been under team control for these two months.

“Obviously, if any centrally contracted player or target player is injured, his case will automatically fall under the jurisdiction of the NCA Medical and Sports Science team.

“For centrally signed players and target players (India A, Emerging India), S&C coaches and physios need to keep NCA in the loop. But when players sign with a team, BCCI cannot decide how many matches they will play. Just For bowlers, there are only four overs,” the source added.
