Australia batsman Steve Smith on Thursday heaped praise on former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni, saying there is no one better than the 42-year-old in India. Speaking to Star Sports, Smith said that no one reads cricket like MS Dhoni. The Australia batsman added that it was “amazing” to share the ground with the former India captain. “There is no one in India who is better suited to stand behind the stumps than MS Dhoni. The way he understands the game and the angle of the game is second to none. So look, he is a great person to play with. I really enjoy being with him Together on and off the field,” Smith said. Smith also called Dhoni a “cold” person. The Australian revealed that the 42-year-old has helped him a lot in cricket.
“He’s a very calm guy, obviously very busy with a ton of stuff outside of the game, but very calm and just a great guy. MS was great a lot of the time. You know, I really enjoyed being around him Playing. I enjoyed leading him as well. He really helped me,” he added.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chepauk Stadium, the Chennai-based franchise announced that Ruturaj Gaikwad will replace the 42-year-old Responsibilities.
The announcement marks the end of Dhoni’s long tenure at CSK, during which he led Chennai to five IPL titles.
CSK got off to a good start in the IPL 2024 season, registering two consecutive wins in their opening match after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
The Chennai-based team currently tops the IPL 2024 table with four points.
