The Hague, Netherlands:

Dutch police said on Thursday they had arrested a man suspected of throwing incendiary objects at the Israeli embassy in The Hague, which has been heavily fortified during the Gaza war.

“At around 10:50 a.m., a flaming object was thrown at the Israeli embassy. We arrested a suspect. No one was injured. We are investigating and there is a large barrier surrounding the embassy,” police said.

Israel has stepped up security around its embassies around the world as Israeli forces launch an offensive in Gaza following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.

Hamas attacks killed about 1,160 people in Israel, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally of official Israeli figures.

Israeli forces have since launched a relentless ground and air offensive in Gaza that has killed 31,988 people, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry run by Hamas in the densely populated Palestinian territory.

In February, there was a bomb scare at the residence of the Israeli ambassador in The Hague.

Police cordoned off the area but no explosives were found.

At the time, authorities in The Hague implemented emergency security measures around the Israeli embassy in response to an unknown threat.

In January, Swedish bomb squads destroyed a “mobile” device at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, which authorities said was a potential “terror crime.”
