Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami-Fazlur (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa and former three services Director General of Intelligence Faiz Hameed orchestrated the no-confidence vote against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Fazl claimed that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was spearheading the no-confidence move against Imran Khan, with Bajwa and Faiz providing instructions. “I don’t agree with it, but I support it because then the PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) will say that I saved Imran Khan,” he said.

The PDM overthrew the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government led by Shehbaz Sharif in April 2022, and the multi-party coalition ruled the country for 16 months before handing power to a caretaker body.

Fazl claimed that General Faiz (retd) also supported the no-confidence motion and claimed, “General Bajwa and General Faiz gave instructions on the no-confidence motion and the PML-N and the PPP sealed the motion. General Faiz said we can do anything within the constraints of the system and he had no objection to that.”

The JUI-F chief said Hamid told him he could not “do anything outside the system,” meaning that all action should take place inside parliament and not on the streets.

“However, I rejected his instructions,” he said, but noted that the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Muttahida Qaumi-Pakistan (MQM-P) and others later left the PTI-led government.

“When they say that [the anti-PTI] Now that we have a majority, I have to agree with them otherwise people will say that I helped save Imran Khan,” said the JUI-F chief, who refused to accept the February 8 election results.

Fazl said both the 2018 and 2024 elections were rigged. “We decided to protest against this vote theft. Now the decision will be taken on the ground and not in parliament,” he said.

Regarding discussions with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on government formation, the JUI-F chief revealed that he refused to participate. “I believe whatever happens during the 2024 elections will benefit the PML-N. There are rumors that Nawaz Sharif gets the Lahore seat,” he added.

He warned that the Muslim League and other parties would face consequences if they went ahead to form the government. “I did not see [bright] Therefore, I invite the Muslim League-North to sit with us for the future of the Parliament,” he stressed.

Senior Indian intelligence sources said that Fazl’s remarks could not have been without the support of the Pakistani army.

“He will leave PDM and ask PML-N to join. This clearly shows that the establishment is of two minds and wants Imran to support forming the government through PPP instead of Nawaz. They are afraid of Nawaz because of his straightforward approach .” said a source.
