Bareilly:
A video purportedly of a murder accused from the Bareilly Central Jail live-streamed on a social media platform has surfaced and an investigation has been ordered into the matter, police said on Thursday.
They said action would be taken no matter who was found guilty in the investigation.
Asif is accused of shooting dead Public Works Department (PWD) contractor Rakesh Yadav (34) on December 2, 2019, in Sardar Bazar police station area of Shahjahanpur .
Another accused Rahul Chaudhry has also been accused of killing Yadav and the two are currently lodged in Bareilly Central Jail.
Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Kuntal Kishore said a video of a murder suspect lodged in jail has gone viral on social media.
In the two-minute-long video, Asif said: “I am in heaven and enjoying myself.” The victim’s brother met magistrate Umesh Pugh on Thursday after seeing the video on social media. Umesh Pratap Singh and submitted a letter of complaint to him.
He said in the letter that the murder accused was given special facilities in jail. He said the two accused were hired from Meerut to kill his brother.
DIG Kishore told PTI over phone that he had seen the video. “The matter is under investigation. Once the investigation is completed, legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” he said.
