Illegal wood was seized in Handwara; Accused arrested

In an important operation aimed at curbing the illegal trade of forest resources, the police successfully seized adequate amount of illegal wood in Handwara, besides arrested the accused person involved in the commission of crime.

A spokesperson said that the police station Kalamabad received reliable information through reliable sources, such as a person, such as Dhobi Mohalla Haril’s son of Bashir Ahmed Nazar, son of Ghulam Nazar Nazar, had stored illegally acquired wooden logs (codar) with his counsel and later transported them. While working immediately on the information, a police team of police station Kalamabad raided the said place.

During the search, 20 wood (cedar) was recovered and seized on the spot in the presence of witnesses according to the legal process.

Accordingly, a case FIR number 24/2025 has been registered in police station Kalamabad under Section 303 (2) of BNS and Section 26 of the Forest Act. The accused person has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to detect wood sources and any possible links for the organized forest trafficking network.
