Five years ago today, “Gully Boy” was released. The coming-of-age film not only propelled the Mumbai street rap scene into the mainstream but also thrust actor Siddhant Chaturvedi into the spotlight. Gully Boy was Chaturvedi’s first high-budget film and he has since been involved in many big projects. Chaturvedi took to Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate Gully Boy’s fifth anniversary with a wholesome post.

He shared a snap from the film’s set and wrote in the caption of the post, “I was born today.” He also tagged director Zoya Akhtar and film production company Excel Entertainment in the post.

In Gully Boy, Chaturvedi plays MC Sher, a beloved street rapper. Ranveer Singh co-starred with Alia Bhatt in this critically acclaimed and commercially successful film. Zoya Akhtar personally discovered Chaturvedi for the role of MC Sher. She saw Chaturvedi at the success party of the web series Inside Edge, in which he played a small role. Akhtar invited Chaturvedi to audition for Gully Boy and later cast him as MC Sher.

It has happened but so far it feels like a dream. I was nervous. She is a great director and knows how to work with actors. She made me very comfortable. She has a great heart Kind and generous. She knew what she was doing.”
