A mother and daughter have been commended by the police for their bravery in fighting off two armed men who entered their Hyderabad home on Thursday afternoon with an apparent intention to rob them.
At 2 p.m., Amita Mehot, 42, was at home with her daughter when the doorbell rang. Two men told the maid who answered the door that they had to deliver a package. They were told to wait outside, but one of them, Sushil, pulled out a gun and his accomplice Premchand held a knife to the maid’s throat.
The pair then forced their way into the house and demanded all valuables be handed over. However, they were not expecting the brave mother-daughter duo, who kicked Sushil and screamed for help.
CCTV footage also showed two women trying to catch one of the two robbers as he tried to escape. Premchand was caught by his neighbours. Sushil managed to escape but was later captured.
Police said the two men worked for the family about a year ago.
A case has been registered based on Amita’s complaint.
North district deputy commissioner of police Rohini Priyadarshini paid tribute to the two women, while proud husband and father Navratan also looked on.
