Hamza Yousuf resigns as Scotland’s first minister

Scottish National Party leader Hamza Yousaf resigned, prompting a search for a replacement to replace him as the new First Minister.

Hamza Yousaf says he will continue in his post as First Minister until the SNP chooses his replacement.

It is noteworthy that the opposition parties have presented two confidence votes in the Scottish Parliament. One is a First Minister while the other is in the SNP government.

During a recent speech, Yusuf paid an emotional tribute to his family.

“I am deeply indebted to my wonderful wife, my beautiful children and my extended family for supporting me all these years,” he says.

He jokes: “I’m afraid you’ll be seeing a lot more of me from now on.”

He added, “You truly mean everything to me.”

Additionally, he described the “brutal business” of politics, saying that politicians “are often denigrated”, adding that “we really believe that once we get it right, and we often do If we do, we become a force for good”.

Before wishing his opponents “genuinely” well, he said politics can take a toll on both “physical and mental health”.

Furthermore, addressing his SNP “family”, Youssef says: “I will always be with you, campaigning with you.”

Although there have been some setbacks, the fight “must continue”, he acknowledged.
