Hyderabad tourist killed in paragliding accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, pilot arrested

A tourist from Hyderabad died in a paragliding accident in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, police said on Sunday. A tourism official said the accident may have been caused by “human error.” A paraglider pilot has been arrested and an investigation into the incident has been ordered, the official said.

According to preliminary reports, the pilot allegedly failed to properly fasten the passenger’s seat belt.

Speaking to Press Trust of India (PTI), tourism official Kullu Sunaina Sharma said investigations revealed that “human error” led to the unfortunate incident. She said the site and equipment were approved, the pilots were registered and there were no weather-related issues.

Paragliding activities in the area have been suspended, she added. A case under IPC sections 336 (act endangering personal safety of others) and 334 (intentionally causing hurt) has been registered and the pilot has been arrested, the official said. She added that a magisterial inquiry into the incident had also been ordered.
