Four people were killed and several others injured, including two children, when a driver participating in a Hungarian racing rally skidded off the road and crashed into spectators on Sunday, authorities said. It was not immediately clear why a vehicle taking part in the two-day Esztergomni Rally in northwest Hungary veered off the road, according to a police statement. At least seven people were injured in the accident, which occurred near the town of Bayot in northwestern Komarom Esztergom County, near the Slovak border, police said.

Eight ambulances and four rescue helicopters were dispatched to the scene and the rally was immediately halted.
Two spectators were seriously injured and one of the children was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the MTI news agency said, citing paramedics at the scene.
Paramedics said six other people, including a child, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The Hungarian National Motorsport Association (MNASZ) expressed its condolences to the families of the victims.
It vowed to cooperate with authorities to immediately investigate the circumstances of the accident.
