Washington:
The White House has said that the Biden administration hopes that the Quad, a grouping of four countries, will continue the momentum of the last three years under India’s chairmanship in 2024.
“The President (Joe Biden) is incredibly proud of the progress the Quad has made over the last three years,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily press conference on Wednesday.
QUAD members – the US, Australia, India and Japan – held their first summit at the White House in March 2021.
“The (QUAD’s) anniversary is coming up and as you just said, we’re hoping to continue that momentum in 2024 under India’s host year. And, we’re not just talking about the United States, obviously. But we are talking about India, Japan and Australia, Jean-Pierre said in response to a question.
“We all have a shared vision of a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific. QUAD is helping all our countries deliver concrete benefits to the Indo-Pacific in many critically important areas. Therefore, we look forward to QUAD in 2024 To continue that progress, and not just into 2024, but beyond,” she said.
The annual summit of QUAD countries is scheduled to be held in India this year. The date of the summit has not been announced yet.
