Apple is reportedly developing an updated version of its HomePod smart speaker with an LCD display, and images of the device’s components have now surfaced online. A tipster has leaked an image of what appears to be a next-generation HomePod glass cover, which could feature a touchscreen display that could be surrounded by speakers and could display important information like incoming notifications or media playback controls.

A tipster with the username Kosutami (@Kosutami_Ito) leaked an image of an alleged HomePod display cover. The component is round and appears in the image to have a curved surface. It also suggests that the touchscreen will have a glossy surface. The tweet also stated that this was a B720 prototype previously discovered online.

Earlier this year, an unnamed device called the Z314 was spotted in the tvOS 17.4 beta, which eventually rolled out to customers in March. According to reports, the yet-to-be-released device is expected to run on Apple’s A15 Bionic chip and run tvOS. The second-generation HomePod is powered by the Apple S7 chipset.

Last October, the same tipster leaked images of a purported HomePod frame with a touchscreen display, which had black bezels. At the time, the user claimed that the device would be similar to Apple’s second-generation HomePod, which was launched in February 2023, five years after the first-generation HomePod was launched.

Tianfeng Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that Apple plans to launch a HomePod model equipped with a 7-inch touch screen in 2024. Ming-Chi Kuo said at the time that Tianma would be the sole supplier of the so-called HomePod, which he claimed would be launched in 2024. It will be available in the first half of 2024. The device will compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub.
