Hezbollah fighters kill 8 in Israeli attack on Lebanon

Israel and Hezbollah have been fighting on the border since the Gaza war broke out in October.

Beirut:

At least eight people, including Hezbollah fighters, were killed in Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon, security sources told Reuters on Wednesday.

An attack in the border village of Tel Hafa killed five people, security sources and Lebanese state media said, shortly after an attack on a restaurant in the border town of Naqoura killed at least three others.

Iran-backed Hezbollah said it fired dozens of rockets at Israel’s northern Shmona border early on Wednesday in response to a deadly Israeli air strike on the southern Lebanese village of Hebariya a day earlier.

The heavily armed Shiite Muslim group said air strikes near two towns in northeastern Lebanon killed three Hezbollah militants.

Israel and Hezbollah have been fighting on the border since war broke out between Israel and Hamas in Gaza in October, the most serious escalation between the two bitter enemies since a month-long war in 2006.
