Eleanor Coppola acclaimed for her Emmy-winning documentaries Heart of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Revelationdied at the age of 87.

She entered filmmaking while working on her husband’s Vietnam War epic, capturing the behind-the-scenes challenges and chaos that led to extended production times on the project.

During that time, apocalypse now is the highly anticipated follow-up The Godfather: Part 2 and faced numerous setbacks and crises, causing its production in the Philippines to take twice as long as the originally planned five months.

From Martin Sheen replacing Harvey Keitel to the typhoon-raging scenes, the film ran into countless troubles. Sheen was hospitalized for a heart condition, further adding to the challenge.

While dealing with these challenges, Eleanor recorded behind-the-scenes footage that later formed the core of the 1991 documentary Heart of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Revelations.

Released after twelve years apocalypse now The documentary eventually made it to the screen and received eight Oscar nominations, earning critical acclaim.

In addition, Eleanor is survived by her husband, children Sofia and Roman, and three grandchildren.
