Sanjay Singh’s mother says she’s happy her son has been granted bail

Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh’s mother Radhika Singh could not hold back tears during an interview with NDTV, today a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over Delhi liquor policy Nearly six months after his arrest, her son was granted bail by the Supreme Court. case.

These are happy tears (It was tears of happiness),” she told New Delhi TV.

On October 4, 2023, the Federal Council member was arrested at his home in the national capital. Just before school board officials took him away, Mr. Singh walked into his mother’s room and touched her feet. He sought her blessing and walked out before she could react.

“That day he walked in and touched my feet and I thought he was coming to sit with me. Who knew he was arrested? His arrest shocked me and I cried. How did we think this could happen, When they found out there was no evidence against him?” she told New Delhi TV today.

“We knew nothing about his arrest. We just knew they (investigating agencies) found nothing against him. We were sure he would not be arrested. So when he came to touch my feet, I had no idea. And then Everyone started saying he was being taken away and when I saw him signing a document I found out they were taking him away. I was distraught and cried a lot,” she added.

She said that although the news of her son’s bail was sudden, it was not unexpected.

“The news of his bail was sudden and made me happy. Why didn’t he get bail? He is innocent. He is honest and not corrupt. I was confident he would never be arrested. But then he…. ..it doesn’t matter…people with power will…” her voice trailed off.

Sanjay Singh is also the first senior AAP leader to be granted bail in the case. “Yes, he is the first AAP leader to get bail in this case. I am happy. I always thank God for granting him bail,” Ms Singh said.

The Education Department said it did not wish to detain Sanjay Singh further and he was released today. The agency told the court it would grant Mr Singh bail and “will not consider” his arguments.

However, the Supreme Court raised several questions to the ED and asked why he was jailed for over six months without trial or recovery of the alleged bribe of Rs 2 crore.

“Nothing has been found… no trace of the Rs 100-crore bribe allegedly received by AAP for allotment of liquor licenses to ‘South Group’…” the top court told ED.

Singh, who was arrested on money laundering charges and has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since October last year in connection with the GST policy scam, Manish Sisodia and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Arrested just weeks before crucial election.

The AAP leader’s previous bail pleas had been rejected, with the High Court in February saying there was “no reason” for relief.
