As Mumbai Indians prepare for the first match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, a new leadership structure is in place with Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma) as captain. While it will take a few games to see how the new structure affects the five-time champions, not much has changed for the team’s middle-order batsman Tilak Varma since Hardik took over. The southpaw explained how Hardik and Rohit always provide help to other players in the team.

During the press conference ahead of MI’s first match against Gujarat Titans, Tilak faced a lot of questions about the change of captaincy in the team. He had nothing but good things to say about leader Hardik.

“Rohit has been with us, Hardikbhai has been with us. It’s all the same, just following the basics. Strategy-wise, everything is going well. It’s the same thing, nothing new,” Varma said .

Tilak also made his India debut under Hardik Pandya and now, the all-rounder will head into the IPL 2024 season as captain. While Hardik is the designated captain of the team, Tilak explained that Rohit will be there for the captain and others whenever they need his input.

“I made my debut under him (Hardik) when I was playing for India, so it went well. Hardik was the captain and Rohit was always there for Hardik and the team. We united as a team Together,” he added.

Tilak also talked about his role in the team and said that as a debutant for the Indian team, he now has a bigger responsibility on his shoulders.

“Last year was a good season but now, as a senior player and playing for India, I have a bigger responsibility to play a mature innings. As I said before, I always want to finish the game and I have Good knowledge and experience playing for India, so I’m looking forward to using that now,” he said.
