Gujarat Minister Raghavji Patel suffered stroke, condition stable: Doctors

Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel suffered a stroke and was admitted to a private hospital in Rajkot where his condition is stable, doctors said on Sunday.

The 65-year-old cabinet minister also heads the animal husbandry, fisheries, rural housing and rural development departments of the state government led by Bhupendra Patel.

“Raghavji Patel suffered a haemorrhage on the right side of his brain in Jamnagar around 10.30 pm on Saturday. He underwent initial treatment at a hospital in Jamnagar and was later admitted to Referral to our hospital,” said Dr Sanjay Tilala, neurosurgeon at Collaborative Hospital, Rajkot.

“He was admitted to our hospital around 4 am on Sunday and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His condition is stable,” Dr. Tilara said.

Raghavji Patel represents Jamnagar (Rural) Assembly constituency.

In September 2017, he quit the Congress party and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of that year’s assembly elections.

In August 2017, Raghavji Patel, then a Congress MP, voted against veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel in the Lok Sabha polls. Whoever wins.

He contested the 2017 assembly elections as a BJP candidate but was defeated by Congress MP Vallabh Dharaviya.

Later, Raghavji Patel won the 2019 by-elections held after Dharavia’s resignation.

He was re-elected in the 2022 state assembly elections.
