Greggs stores ‘closed across UK’ due to ‘IT glitch at checkouts’

Greggs said the company was “having problems accepting payments” amid reports that stores across the country were being forced to close.

The bakery chain added in a statement: “We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

X users across the country reported that their local branches were closed or severely impacted.

One person wrote: “Gregs in Westminster is closed. There’s something wrong with the till.” Another added: “Gregs only takes cash this morning! Sitting here with a coffee and watching Nearly everyone had to get out.”

It comes after “technical issues” affected contactless payments and online delivery services in Sainsbury’s stores over the weekend, causing confusion for shoppers.

Tesco has also canceled some online orders after experiencing problems.

McDonald’s customers were turned away from restaurants around the world last week, including in the UK, as the fast-food chain was also hit by a major IT problem.
