Google has pledged 25 million euros ($26.98 million) to help people in Europe learn to use artificial intelligence (AI).
The tech giant announced the funding on Monday and said it has opened applications to social enterprises and nonprofits to help those most likely to benefit from the training.
The company will also operate a series of “Growth Academies” to support companies using AI to scale, and expand its free online AI training courses to 18 languages.
“Research shows that the benefits of AI may exacerbate existing inequalities — particularly when it comes to economic security and employment,” said Adrian Brown, executive director of the Center for Public Impact, which runs the nonprofit program with Google .
“This new initiative will help people across Europe develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in AI, ensuring no one is left behind.”
Last month, Google announced it would invest $1 billion to build a data center outside London to meet the region’s growing demand for Internet services.
The data center is located on 33 acres (13 hectares) of land purchased by Google in 2020, in the town of Waltham Cross, about 15 miles (24.14 kilometers) north of Alphabet’s central London. New Label said in a statement.
