Google Bard, a popular artificial intelligence chatbot and competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has been around for nearly a year. The chatbot recently got a major overhaul and is now powered by the search giant’s Gemini family of large language models, as well as gaining support for image generation using Imagen 2 models. Now, the chatbot may be getting another major update in the form of a complete rebrand.

Google Bard may be renamed “Google Gemini”, in keeping with the name of the underlying LL.M. on which it is built. This information stems from a leaked changelog shared on X by app developer Dylan Russel, indicating that the naming may be changing. “Bard is now a Gemini,” the changelog reads.

In addition to the name change, Google’s chatbot is also getting “an improved user interface to reduce visual clutter, improve legibility, and simplify navigation.”

Google may also launch a new paid version of its chatbot called “Gemini Advanced,” which will also feature voice chat tools similar to ChatGPT Plus and run on “Ultra 1.0,” which the company calls its most advanced artificial intelligence Smart models however.

Additionally, the same changelog suggests that a dedicated app for Gemini may be coming soon as well. “Help you learn in new ways, write thank-you notes, plan events, and more with Google AI on your phone,” Google said in what it calls a changelog.

Additionally, it is said to work with Google’s own apps, including Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, with which users can interact via text, voice, or images. The app may launch on select English-language devices in the United States and may expand to more countries soon.

It’s also important to note that the changelog is dated February 7th, which is only a few days ago. Maybe we’ll see these changes that day.
