Shubham, Ishita, Jiya and Vidhi – these were those innocent children who came into this world but could not live their entire lives. The reason was a psycho killer named Poonam.

The story of this lady psycho killer from Panipat, Haryana is no less than a film script. His story is filled with such disturbing details of love, madness and cruelty that anyone would shudder to hear it. The biggest question in this story is how can a mother kill her own child?

But it was as if the shadow of death had come over Poonam. He showed no mercy while killing four children. Videos have also surfaced of him laughing and playing with his children. But the truth behind Poonam’s smiling face came to light only after two and a half years.

Actually this story starts from January 2023. Everything seemed normal. It was 11th January. At that time, Poonam’s sister-in-law had come to her parents’ house with her 7 year old daughter Ishita. Panic suddenly spread in Bhavad village of Gohana, Sonipat on 12 January 2023.

In a five-feet deep outdoor water storage tank, the bodies of Poonam’s 3-year-old son and her sister-in-law Pinky’s 7-year-old daughter Ritika were found. The family believed it was an accident and that no one realized his intentions. The result was that this double murder was considered an accident and no one realized Poonam’s role.

The shocking thing is that Poonam had drowned both her son and Ishita in the tank. After committing two murders he waited for almost two years to satisfy his madness again.

It is believed that during this time Poonam became pregnant again, so she stopped her pregnancy. She later gave birth to another son and named him after her first son, Shubham.

In 2025 he murdered a girl named Jiya

On August 18, the devil inside Poonam woke up again. This time his target was Jiya. Poonam was staying at her cousin Deepak’s house in Siwah village and at night she convinced 10-year-old Jiya to sleep with her. She coaxed the girl with love and then in the dark of night, the killer aunt drowned her in the water tank behind the house.

Jiya’s mother told that Poonam had come to her house on 18th August. The next morning when the family woke up to get Jiya ready for school, she was missing. They later found him in a small water tank behind the house. The family considered filing a police complaint, but Poonam intimidated them in the name of legal trouble and cried the most.

Jiya’s mother said that the tank was not big enough for a child to drown in it, but the family remained silent, believing that it was an accident. Jiya’s uncle Surendra said that he was suspicious of Poonam. When he accused her of murdering Jiya, she deliberately started crying and said that she would end her life and due to social pressure the matter was not taken to the police.

She was caught after the fourth murder

Poonam had committed three murders in two years, yet no one came to know about it. People became suspicious of him, but no one went to the police. Meanwhile, she reached Nautha village of Israna in Panipat, where a wedding was taking place. Satish – a relative of Poonam’s in-laws – had come with his family. On December 1, Poonam murdered 6-year-old Vidhi.

His method was the same as before – drowning. She chose the wedding day and drowned the child in the bathtub. However, this time she could not escape. The police arrested him and exposed all four murders. A key detail: The three murders were committed on Ekadashi and December 1 was also Ekadashi. Due to this, the police is also investigating the angle of Tantra-Mantra.

Was there any influence on her and did she go to any Tantrik?

Poonam committed four murders and now Tantra-Mantra is being discussed because three murders took place on the day of Ekadashi and all three were carried out in the same manner. Jiya’s uncle Surendra, who is also Poonam’s cousin, said that when the family investigated from every angle, one thing came to light – the earlier three murders had taken place on Ekadashi. This suggests that it may be related to some Tantric ritual.

Poonam’s behavior was also strange. She used to tell people in Gohana that the spirit of the neighboring youth had entered her. Surendra has demanded the harshest punishment for her, saying that if she is given life imprisonment and later released, she can kill more children. The family said that they had also taken Poonam to a Tantrik.

She breast fed the child of the same woman whose daughter Poonam was murdered

The shocking thing is that Vidhi’s mother Rakhi used to take care of Poonam’s son Shubham. He hugged Poonam’s two-year-old child and fed him milk. Vidhi’s mother had taken Poonam’s 10-month-old child with her because Poonam did not care much for her child and mostly stayed in her maternal home.

How educated was Poonam?

Poonam, originally from Israna, Panipat, married Naveen from Gohana in 2019. In 2021, she gave birth to her first son. He had completed MA in Political Science and topped his B.Ed course. Her husband used to run a car washing centre.

How was this four-time child murderer caught?

After three murders, she escaped the law. But he made mistakes during the fourth. The bathtub in which Vidhi was immersed was smaller than her height, which raised suspicion among the police. When Poonam came down after killing the child, her clothes were wet, which showed that she had struggled during the incident. People had seen him in that condition. Information was given to the police and during interrogation the truth came out.

How he murdered Vidhi – What the killer aunt told the police

Panipat SP Bhupendra Singh said that the accused woman told that she had come to her maternal home in Siwah and had attended the wedding of Aman, son of her husband Naveen’s uncle Satpal in Nautha village.

She attended the wedding on 30th November and after Aman’s wedding procession took place on 1st December, all the guests went out. She saw Vidhi climbing the stairs, followed her to the terrace, talked to her, took a plastic tub filled with water from outside the store room inside, immersed Vidhi by pushing her neck into the water, closed the door from outside and came down.

What do psychologists say about female killers?

Delhi’s well-known clinical psychologist Aruna Bruta says that people who commit such murders are obsessed with certain things. Sometimes, due to their neurotic thinking, some idea takes deep roots in their mind, which creates jealousy or disappointment in them.

Such disorders do not appear suddenly; They develop since childhood. There is a need for treatment and counseling, but unfortunately, society does not pay attention to mental illnesses.
