The joint statement came from some of Renner’s former collaborators and contemporaries, including Crystal, Brooks, Short, David and their spouses. Signatories included author Alan Zweibel, composer and lyricist Marc Shaiman, director Barry Levinson, and former US Ambassador to Spain James Costos.

The statement said, “For actors, he loved them. For writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he included you in the process. He always felt like they were working as a team. It was a privilege to be in his hands as a filmmaker, but that’s only part of his legacy.”
Renners was a major Democratic contributor and champion of many political causes.
The statement said, “Rob was also a passionate, brave citizen who not only cared about this country he loved, he did everything he could to better it and, along with his loving wife Michelle, he was the perfect partner. Strong and tenacious, Michelle and Rob Reiner devoted a great deal of their lives to the well-being of our fellow citizens… Together they were a special force – dynamic, selfless and inspiring.”
“We were his friends, and we will always miss him,” it said, before closing with a quote from the Christmastime classic “It’s a Wonderful Life,” one of Reiner’s favorite movies.
“There’s a line from one of Rob’s favorite movies,”it’s a Wonderful Life‘Every human being’s life touches many other lives, and when he is not around, he leaves a terrible hole, doesn’t he?’ You have no idea,” the statement concluded.
Renner’s death stunned Hollywood, especially since his family was the epitome of a gentle and humorous spirit.
Many stars and political figures paid tribute to his death on Sunday and Monday, but many people close to Renners have not yet issued a statement.
