Rio de Janeiro:
Wedding photos or diplomatic visit? The apparent “bromance” between French President Emmanuel Macron and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has caught the attention of social media fans.
During a three-day visit to Brazil, Macron, 46, was photographed smiling and giving a warm embrace to Lula, 78, during a trip to the Amazon rainforest.
Many of the images have since been shared widely among Brazilian social media users, along with montages and witty comments.

One photo showed the leaders raising their arms under a large tree, which was edited to show them holding heart-shaped red balloons.
Another photo depicts the two holding hands, smiling and looking at the horizon, floating on a boat along the Amazon River.

Macron’s warm relationship with Lula marks a departure from the French leader’s frosty relationship with Brazil’s former right-wing president, Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro leads the country from 2019 to 2022.
His trip will end in Brasilia on Thursday, where he will meet Lula at the presidential palace and the two leaders announce a billion-dollar green investment plan for the Amazon.
France, the world’s seventh largest economy, and Brazil, the ninth largest economy, are considered key players in the geopolitical arena of competition between China and the United States.
Paris sees Brasilia as a bridge to large emerging economies, whose voices it is trying to amplify through its G20 presidency and membership in the BRICS+ grouping.
