Francia Raisa recently recalled the time when she donated a kidney to her old friend Selena Gomez.

When asked by host Robert Peterpaul to reflect on her decision, Raisa quipped:

“What else but donating a kidney? It was definitely a personal choice. It was definitely an act of kindness, regardless of the rumors.”

Talking about the negativity revolving around the actress’ decision to donate her organs, Raisa said: “Listen, we experience this with every hero in the world. I’m sure after Martin Luther King passed away, Bad things were written about her. People are always looking for something negative,” she said on the podcast.

“I’ve put myself in a position where people are interested in my personal life – I wish it weren’t so crazy. Sometimes people need a distraction from their lives. If I’m that distraction, So I guess I should be just as grateful that people care about my feelings. Yes, it was something I did because I was really called to do it and I’ve been blessed ever since.”

Earlier, it was Gomez who broke the big news of her friend Raisa voluntarily donating her kidney.

Gomez captioned the post: “There are no words to describe how I can thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I I love you very much sister.”

But in an emotional interview today’s showGomez described how her friend’s timely donation saved her life.
