Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, ex-minister jailed to serve jail time: Report

Imran Khan is the founder and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Islamabad:

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will still have to perform prison labor inside the prison despite being high-profile prisoners, according to media reports.

The two leaders were sentenced to 10 years in prison by a special court in the password case and are being held in Rawalpindi’s high-security Adiala jail, where their trial is taking place.

Khan, 71, and Qureshi, 67, are high-profile prisoners who were held separately in their capacity as former prime minister and foreign minister, The Express Tribune reported.

Khan is the founder chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, and Qureshi is the party’s deputy chairman.

Reports say both leaders are using facilities provided to inmates at state-of-the-art prisons similar to those they had before their convictions, including access to exercise equipment.

According to the source, according to the prison manual, the two men were given two sets of prison uniforms. However, as the trials of other cases of the PTI founding chairman are ongoing, it is not mandatory for him to wear prison uniform.

Two inmates will also perform prison labor within the compound on written orders.

The report quoted sources as saying that high-profile prisoners cannot be housed with ordinary prisoners in prison factories, kitchens, hospitals, gardens and other places. Therefore, they will be kept in the prison to perform maintenance work or any other tasks assigned by the prison administration.

Two inmates are allowed to prepare their own meals depending on their assigned class. They are also allowed to eat prepared meals according to prison manuals.

Similarly, Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, who was convicted in the Toshakana (Gift Bank and Idat cases), was assigned a woman police officer, led by a policewoman from Attock and Mur Tan’s female assistant superintendent.

Police will be stationed 24 hours a day in two shifts at the couple’s Bani Gala residence, which has been declared a sub-jail.

Male officers of Adiala Jail have been posted at the outer perimeter of Banigala House and Islamabad Police are responsible for security around it. According to prison manuals, prison authorities are providing breakfast, lunch and dinner to the 49-year-old former first lady, sources said.

However, they added that since Bushra was not in a regular jail but was being held in a sub-jail, there was no facility to provide her with fitness equipment.

Sources said since Khan and Qureshi were jailed before their conviction, this time will also count towards their punishment.

Two days ago, a court sentenced Khan and his wife to seven years in prison in the “un-Islamic” marriage, or Idat case.

Last week, the founding chairman of PTI and his wife were sentenced to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana case.

Khan and Qureshi were also sentenced to 10 years each in the password case last week, the newspaper reported.

The code case involves a piece of paper purported to be a diplomatic cable – a code – that Khan waved at a public rally on March 27, 2022, and singled out the United States, claiming it was “evidence” to overthrow him The government’s “international conspiracy”
