Former Newcastle United and Wimbledon manager Joe Kinnear has died aged 77.

His family announced the news in a statement Sunday night.

The former footballer has been suffering from vascular dementia since 2015.

Dublin-born Kinnear won the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup as a Tottenham player.

He subsequently coached teams such as Luton Town, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.

His family released a statement saying: “We are sad to announce that Joe passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by his family.

“Jo, now 77, was diagnosed with dementia in 2015.

“He will be fondly remembered by many – both as a player and as a coach.

“His Wimbledon side finishing sixth in the Premier League in 1993-94 was a remarkable achievement.”
