sorry:

Debraj Mohanty, the former MP from Askar in Odisha’s Ganjam district, resigned from the BJP after being denied the right to contest the assembly elections.

On Tuesday, the BJP announced 112 candidates, including 12 from Ganjam district for 13 seats.

Debraj Mohanty, who was the BJD MP from Askar in 2000, 2009 and 2014, submitted his resignation to the party’s national president Manmohan Samal.

Before the 2019 general elections, he resigned from the BJD and joined the saffron party after being denied a vote. He ran unsuccessfully in the last election.

“Ever since joining the BJP, I have been actively participating in all party activities in Askar. But the party did not give me a ticket,” said 71-year-old Debraj Mohanty.

The BJP has fielded Saroj Padhi, also a former MLA, to replace Debraj Mohanty. Paddy was elected to Parliament in 2004 as an independent.

Debraj Mohanty said: “I will consult my supporters to decide the future course of action.”

He also did not rule out the possibility of returning to the BJD if tickets were available.

The BJD and Congress are yet to announce their candidates for Aska.
