Former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi suffered a heart attack and has been admitted to the ICU of Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital, the private medical facility said on Thursday.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Mr Joshi, 86, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and is seriously ill, the hospital said in a statement.

“Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi was admitted to PD Hinduja Hospital on 21 February 2024. He suffered a cardiac event and is critically ill. He is currently in the ICU under intensive observation and receiving the best medical care. Are.” The statement said.

The 86-year-old Shiv Sena leader was admitted to the same hospital in May last year after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

Mr Joshi was the Chief Minister from 1995 to 1999 and was the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to hold the top post in the state.

He was also elected as a Member of Parliament and was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004 when the Vajpayee government was in power.
