Rajouri, 23 July: For three consecutive days, heavy rains at Kalakot Division in Rajouri district triggered landslides, damaged homes and blocked the road.

Assistant Development Commissioner (ADC) of Calcote, Tanveer Hussain Khan said that teams are working around the clock to address the situation. All schools, government and private, are closed for the second day due to heavy rains.

Rajouri district has experienced flash floods and landslides due to heavy rains. The authorities have responded to setting up control papers for emergency assistance and avoiding the residents from living indoors and traveling through landslide areas.

People have suffered heavy losses. At least 25 houses have been damaged. We have vacated people to safe places. Since it is a mountainous region, people have suffered extensive damage due to landslides. Bro is working to reduce roads damage. We have set up rehabilitation centers in Kalkot. Schools are closed for the second consecutive day, ”said ADC Kalakot.

A local resident said that there are many poor people who have suffered losses. “After the landslide, the debris has fallen at the shops. The government should pay compensation to the victims,” he said.

Earlier in the day, two laborers lost their lives and another one was seriously injured in a landslide, which was held in Badora on Wednesday morning, which falls under Mahore sub-division of Rasi district, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when the three people, including the JCB machine operator, were sleeping in a tent at a construction site related to the Badora Shiva cave pilgrimage. Around 2 o’clock, a sudden landslide hit the area, and the tent was buried in it.

The deceased has been identified as Ravi Kumar (23), son of Parshotam Kumar, resident of Tehsil Channi in Udhampur district, and Rashpal Singh (26), son of Soba Ram, who took Labert for Tuli Kalaban resident, Tehsil Chasana, Rasi.

Earlier on 21 July, a young student lost his life after a landslide in Poonch. The medical superintendent in charge of the district hospital said that a 5 -year -old child was brought to the dead, while the other 4 suffered minor injuries and were currently subject to observation. He said that a teacher was also injured but in a stable position.

Talking to ANI, Medical Officer Dr. Ishfaq Ahmed said, “In the banch, an unfortunate incident occurred in the school, resulting in injuries due to landslides. A total of five children were injured. A 5 -year -old child was brought to the dead, while anyone was injured. Or a referral was needed, we will handle it accordingly.” (AI)
