‘Flat pitch, small boundaries’: Pakistan stars mock IPL SRH vs MI match sets T20 record

The IPL 2024 match between SunRisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday was nothing short of a spectacle. The surface was so conducive to batting that even bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins missed runs. SRH and MI scored a total of 523 runs in the match. A total of 38 sixes were hit in the game, setting a record. This was also the first time that 500 runs were scored in a T20 game. Commenting on the match, out-of-favour Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan took a jibe at the type of pitches and size of boundaries offered in the IPL.

“Flat pitch, small boundaries, fast outfield. This is called IPL. The target is 278,” the player said on X wrote.

Chasing a mammoth total, MI did threaten SRH with some brilliant batting but ended up trailing by just 31 runs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad set an all-time IPL record of 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians before registering victory in a tight-fought encounter that left both bowlers bewildered .

SRH opener Travis Head (62 off 24) and third-place finisher Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) put on a sensational power-hitting performance, The latter snatched the fastest fifty record from the Australians within minutes.

Heinrich Klaasen (80 not out off 34 balls) finally provided a spark for SRH, helping them break their 11-year-old record.

The previous highest total in the IPL was 263 runs in five games by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. This is also the highest total recorded in a T20 league.

Mumbai bowlers were stunned by SRH’s six-hit spree but their batsmen set off with a target and completed a game in seemingly one-way traffic at the interval.

In the end, they ended the match with 5 wins and 246 runs in 20 overs.
